Ch 5 – 20 – The Sickle Sword

I believe its actually called the Khopesh…?

I have a thing for ancient weapons, I’m surprised not a lot of games and movies feature this sword.

I never got to show off/go into depth of any of the Gladiator powers in the rough draft.  Due to how much fun I’m having creating special effects in this final draft I will go into it more :D

Also first death in Pandect… Sorry if anyone started to get attached to Crabby like I did :(

    Reason this sword isn’t used often? Because in practical use, it’s fairly useless. :) The longsword destroys the kopesh. As does the scimitar (which is similarly outdone by the broadsword and the longsword).

    I love ancient weapons myself, but there’s a reason they give way to other weapons – other weapons are simply more effective. :) (but it doesn’t stop the kopesh from looking cool as heck!!!)

      That’s not 100% true, each was designed with a different use, and a different type or style of armor, in mind.

        Sure, there’s that point. The khopesh was designed to cut through wicker shields. Hence why it fell out of use in 1300BC – stronger metals were coming in to use, straight blades are more powerful and easier to carry (you can sheath them in a scabbard, unlike the khopesh) and the advent of metal in shields made the khopesh useless. As wicker was replaced, there was more need for a precision sword crafted of hardier metals that could pierce as well as slice than a weapon that was derived from the axe and was pretty much as useful.

        As stated, other weapons were simply more effective. :) I stand by my statement that the longsword destroys the khopesh – there’s a reason it didn’t fall out of use until the advent of reliable guns.
